nah, its still not taught in school. we learn what it is and why its better but thats about it. so most of the general public has no idea how high 171cm is, or their own weight in kg. though our cars have both mph and km/h on the speedometer.
i've been trying to learn metric units for awhile now. i can for the most part freely convert speed, distance, weight, height and temperature between the two. but most of it is still relative to me, as im not quite sure what the metric measurement is until its converted into american units.

We tried switching over to the metric system in the late 1970s but it just didn't work out.

They're not quite right. For example, 175 is closer to 5'8" than 5'9".

    i rounded them, since i used 1 inch = 2.54cm to convert, 175cm = 68.9 inches, close enough to 5'9"

Yes, I have always known that 'chibi' meant that, and that it's not nice to refer to someone else as that. I just think Gaki is a good looking guy, therefore, 'chibi' must not mean 'runt', 'little one', but something else...

Um...you know what I mean? It was meant to be a kind of joke.
