    Edo-era Japanese in Spain

    The citizens of Coria del Río in Andalusia claim to descend from six samurai who were sent as an envoy to Spain in the early 17th century by the famous daimyo Date Masamune of Sendai.

    Korean and Chinese presidents studied at The Imperial Japanese Army Academy

    Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the Kuomintang then lifetime president of the Republic of China (Taiwan), studied at The Imperial Japanese Army Academy from 1907 to 1911. Likewise, Park Chung-hee, who served as president of South Korea from 1963 to 1979, graduated from The Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1944.

    First US officer to object Iraq War was Japanese-American

    In June, 2006 Lieutenant Ehren Watada became the first US army officer to refuse to serve in Iraq. He said he believed the war to be illegal and that, under the doctrine of command responsibility, it would make him party to war crimes.
