    That is not right.

The Japanese Manga in Chinese is called –Ÿ‰æ(man4 hua4), the same way the Japanese called. Just that it is pronounced in Mandarin only.

The Japanese Anime in Chinese is called “®á`(动‰æ)(dong4 hua4). Anime is not equal to manga, so “®á` is not equal to –Ÿ‰æ.

Hence a chinese cartoon is called “®á`.

“®á` in chinese literally means motion pictures. In English term, we called it animation. Hence, the origin of the word "anime".

The word –Ÿ‰æ is actually a chinese-inspired-japanese-made-word, and reimported back to the chinese langauge community again. It was based on the chinese word –Ÿ•M(man4 bi3), literally means random writting, because it was used to describe drawings, so the japanese changed the word •M(pen) to ‰æ(drawing), hence producing the term –Ÿ‰æ.

    Simply:

Comic = 漫画 = Manhua (CN) Manga (JP)

Cartoon = 動画 Donghua (CN) [Douga (JP) but less used] / アニメ Anime (JP) (but technically means 'animation' in katakana short form)
