    it's the pernounciation thing, because every word with the same romaji or whatever you call that. has four pernounciations, so those numbers indicate which pernounciation it is , so when you say it, others won't mistaken it for another word

    very nice topic, to me.
    I travelled a lot in japan and love this country, but my heart goes to a native Beijing girl. We don't use cantonese or any old fashion way for those words. Just the 3 words (with a "ye" when a reply comes).
