most people who stands at 5'7" can't dunk, some can't even touch the rim
he defeated all those other guys who are 6 foot something to get the champion
so go figure...
the fact is that, the shorter you are,the more skills are required for you to make into the NBA.
I beg to differ. I have seen Bogues and Boykins dunk in the NBA, Hell, I've seen women dunk in college and the WNBA! So it's not impossible!
:-)
Bogues and Boykins dunk???Quote:

actually only a few women dunked in WNBA and college
but they are above 6 foot 3 so they are supposed to be able to dunk in practice, but in actual games thats another thing.
the difference of height
Earl Boykins 5'5
Yao Ming 7'4

That photo is way distorted.
Yuta Tabuse, a player from Japan who did not make it in the NBA, is about 5'7". If he were taller (about 6' ) he might've had a better shot.
He's playing now for the Long Beach Jam.
hmm... they seem so different sized.. ^^;;
It's the truth! I've seen both do it. And who's to say that pic is distorted? Given the size differential, I'd say that looks about right.
:p

there are not many 7 footers,so guys who are above 7' have higher chance
there are many people who are around 5'6 to 6' on the streets
you have to be better than all those people, and be good enough to beat guys who are above 6'
for those who are under 6' ,or even around 5'5" and have a starting spot in the NBA
they are really really good ballers
Yuta Tabuse tried out for the Mavericks, assistant coach Donnie Nelson quite liked him but didn't select him, then he tried out for the Nuggets but was cut too,I guess that because they already had Earl Boykins
But we still have Ichiro! He's only about 5'9" and 170 lbs. but a great athlete role model for Oriental kids. I wish there were players like him when I was growing up. Bruce Lee appeared on the scene when I was 11 but he was in the movies and not as a real competitive fighter. He was 5'7" and 150 lbs.Quote:

hehe... are those what you call... *thinks* childhood heroes? :?
I'm almost 5'8"
I guess that's somewhere around 1m73cm???
Hey Onigiri, what do you have inside you? :D :p
Umeboshi? Sake? Okaka?
Hahah! :D
We'll keep it simple and say umeboshi
*lovles pickled ume*
Good choice. Are you wearing seaweed today?
When I was a kid, I remember chewing on Umeboshi-flavored gum in Japan
One of my Chi Kung students now lives in Medford, OR.
I've been to Ashland--a nice town--and Eugene.
I like Oregon a lot.
HAH! I decided to be daring and went without seaweed today.
Umeboshi flavored gum? That sounds very interesting. :souka:
I live in Medford, Oregon myself. Ashland is a very beautiful place - I was there just a couple of days ago. It's great during the summer.
Oregon's really a nice place to live, I just can't find a lot of the things here that I might in bigger cities. (which there are few of here)
And Portland's just too far away to visit often.
I long to visit Powels (or whatever the bookstore's called). I've never had the chance when I was actually in the area. :okashii:
In college I dated a gal who was from Ashland, so I've been to that town twice.
Does Lythia Park still have that springwater?
My former student in Medford, who is also a few grades away from a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, loves Japan, studies Japanese on his own, and hopes to go there one day to study real Japanese Karate.
How exciting! I wish your former student good luck.
And as far as I know, Lythia park still has its spring water ^.^
It's great to walk around there - totemo kireina desu.
My height is 6ft 2ins
Cool! A fellow tall guy! I'm also 6-2! Welcome to the club! :D
173cm
honestly I hate this height for these reasons:
1.height is important for playing basketball, especially if you wanna get into some leagues, unless you are so good like Earl Boykins,Muggsy Bogues,Spud Webb
2.can't play the position that I wanted, since when I started playing basketball I wanted to play Power Forward, but now due to my height I play Guards when playing with bigger guys [6 ft +]
3.common to see white girls taller than me
well it is genetic..since my parents are short...gotta live with it~
Does anyone have any growth hormone pills they wanna sell online? I bet they're much safer than that blasted Viagra fo sho!
5'9"....im tall compared to my family.
1,92.
Line most heard:
"So, you play Basketball?"
"No. I'm into Irish tap dancing." :D
:(
I'm not! :pQuote:

Lol, im about that, I think i make 170 if i streeeetch just enough. Nothing funnier than seeing some 6' gaijin walking around bumping his head on the rediculously low ceilings they have in some parts of stations.
I'm exactly 5 feet. Sooooo short. I bet I'm the shortest person on this board!
*sulks* oof. It doesn't seem like I'm gonna grow anymore. *jumps up and down* Grow me!
And so far, both Shortest and tallest are taken by Canadians, if people voted as they posted, Kikyo at 1.52 and myself at 2.01
Diversity is all that counts :P
(Then again a trip to Japan could be virtual suicide for me...)
Looks like I am in a major minority here. I am just 5'0" tall.
How about Irish rap?Quote:

Im 5,8, but only 16 nearly 17 so a few years to go yet.
I'm only 5'6"....and I doubt that I'll get any taller in this lifetime.
