I am planning to visit Japan this summer and I would like to go to at least three onsen in different regions. I like traditional ryokan hotels with staff in kimono. I attach importance to fine gastronomy. What places do you suggest ? I only know Hakone and Izu-hanto, but I have already been there.

There are thousands of onsen in Japan and you will find them in almost every prefecture, so it's difficult to recommend just three places.

There are many specialised websites in English describing or rating hot springs.
