View Full Version : Is the New Land Reform Policy promising?

Oct 18, 2008, 12:54
The Chinese communist party is about to adopt a rural growth policy by allowing farmers to sell their land rights. Selling land rights have been prohibited by the current Chinese law. This policy is aimed to enable the establishment of large-scale farms like what we see in the US. Farmers are also in theory can use their land rights as collateral for loans or cash in on their land assets.

I wonder if the expected effects can be achievable or it will create huge confusion in Chinese society.:?

The Chinese government finally announced a rural reform policy on Oct. 19th, allowing farmers to transfer and lease land-use rights. The reform aims to close in the income gap between the countryside and the urban areas (Reported by the New York Times http://www.wa-pedia.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=600631)

I hope Chinese farmers' lives significantly improve by the introduction of this reform.
