Japanese Women: Constraint and Fulfillment is an ethnographic study seeking through actual observations and direct interviews to depict levels of interactions in personal and individual, family, and broader social relations. Sex polarization/role specialization, the life cycle itself, and the sense of fulfillment in life experience are major themes considered. Personal experience data are elicited from 57 women, who range in age from 28 to 80 and whose positions cut across various strata of socio-economic status and occupations.
