Hmm... had no idea. I just assumed those names were exclusively Japanese. I wonder how many other names might be cross-cultural. A little off-topic but recently i've had a batch of new students with interesting names i've not heard before like "Kirika", "Sea" (never seen that spelling, pronounced like Seiya), "Ramu" (like ramune). All were girl's names coincidentally.
NITTA
The families of Genji.
A family of SEIWA Genji,
They based on Ueno country (Gunma).
Because they developed Nitta in Ueno, they introduced themselves as "新田(Nitta)" http://sky.zero.ad.jp/~zac28831/syashin-nt01.htm
